The announcement was highlighted by Rwanda’s ambassador to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Urujeni Bakuramutsa, during a reception for ITU council members.
The ITU, a United Nations agency established in 1865, is responsible for promoting global cooperation in information and communication technologies and setting international standards to expand connectivity, particularly in developing countries.
Bakuramutsa said Rwanda has maintained consistent engagement within the ITU Council since 2010, contributing to initiatives aimed at inclusive digital development and supporting broader United Nations goals.
ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin commended Rwanda for its leadership in advancing digital transformation, noting the country’s growing role as a technology hub and its programs supporting innovation both domestically and across Africa.
She also pointed to Rwanda’s progress in artificial intelligence, digital skills development and its expanding influence in shaping global technology policy.
