Rwanda’s women’s national football team has dropped two places in the latest FIFA world rankings, released Thursday, falling to 168th globally.

The update, issued August 7, marks the third FIFA ranking of the year, following previous editions in March and June.

Rwanda last played in February, when it was eliminated by Egypt in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 3-2 aggregate score. The team retained 892.39 points but slipped in position, having already dropped one place to 166th in June.

In March, Rwanda had moved up three spots and gained 17.58 points after playing a two-match series against Egypt.

The team’s best-ever FIFA ranking was 105th in December 2017. Its current position ties its lowest point in history, which was first recorded in December 2024.

Nigeria remains Africa’s top-ranked women’s team at No. 36 globally, following its recent Africa Cup of Nations victory. Rwanda is ranked 34th among African nations.

Spain now tops the global rankings, replacing the United States, while England, the 2025 UEFA Women’s EURO champions, is fourth behind Sweden in third.

This month’s rankings include 196 national teams, with 47 African countries represented.

Among Rwanda’s regional neighbors, the Democratic Republic of Congo is ranked 116th, Tanzania 131st, Uganda 147th, and Burundi 178th.

FIFA will release the final rankings of the year on December 11, 2025.
