Rwanda Development Board and Germany’s FC Bayern Munich have renewed their partnership until 2028, aiming to expand youth football scouting and development programs in the country.
The agreement, announced Friday on RDB’s social media platforms, builds on the collaboration launched in August 2023 under the Visit Rwanda brand. The deal has brought Bayern coaches to Rwanda to train local trainers and identify promising young players, some of whom have traveled to Germany for advanced training.
RDB CEO Jean-Guy Afrika said the second phase will focus on nurturing talent, training coaches and improving infrastructure.
“The value of the FC Bayern Munich Academy in Kigali is a clear example of what sports partnerships can achieve,” Afrika said. “In this second phase, we aim to maximize opportunities by building skills and facilities.”
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said the club will strengthen its activities at the Kigali academy and continue to work on projects benefiting local communities.
“The renewed partnership focuses on talent identification, strengthening the academy and finding football talent across Africa,” he said.
The program has already produced results. Two Rwandan players, Ndayishimiye Barthazar and David Okoce, were selected to join Bayern’s under-19 team.
