Rwanda’s Ambassador Parfait Busabizwa presented his credentials to Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema on Tuesday, March 17, formally assuming his role as Rwanda’s representative in Gabon. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Libreville.
During a brief meeting, President Nguema welcomed Ambassador Busabizwa and praised the strong bilateral relations between Rwanda and Gabon. He also highlighted the successful implementation of cooperation agreements between the two countries and commended President Paul Kagame’s role in fostering continental collaboration across African Union member states.
After presenting President Kagame’s message, Ambassador Busabizwa expressed his pleasure at representing Rwanda in Gabon, a country with which Rwanda enjoys a longstanding friendship. He pledged to strengthen cooperation and bilateral relations, particularly in trade, tourism, technology, and other mutually beneficial areas.
Rwanda and Gabon established diplomatic ties shortly after Gabon’s independence, mainly cooperating through international organizations such as the African Union and La Francophonie. In November 2024, Rwanda, represented by the Office of the Ombudsman, and Gabon, represented by the Anti-Corruption and Illicit Enrichment Commission, signed a cooperation agreement to combat corruption and financial crimes.
Relations entered a new phase in October 2023 when President Nguema visited Rwanda. During the visit, he met with President Kagame to discuss ways to enhance collaboration, particularly in education, trade, economic development, agriculture, and technology.
In May 2025, President Kagame attended the inauguration of President Nguema, reinforcing the strong and growing ties between Rwanda and Gabon.
