Rwanda and Uganda have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties following a joint meeting held in Kampala.
Officials from the two countries met during the 12th session of the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC), hosted at the Mestil Hotel, where they emphasized the importance of maintaining strong “brotherly relations.”
Rwanda’s delegation was led by Gisa Teta, Director General of the Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, while Uganda’s team was led by Richard Kabonero,the Head of Regional Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration across key sectors, including defense, trade, infrastructure, immigration and capacity building.
Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two countries also committed to addressing existing barriers to trade and enhancing cooperation in agriculture, industry, construction and infrastructure development.
“The Uganda–Rwanda JPC 2026 reflects the strong brotherly relations between the two countries and the political will that exists on both sides,” the ministry said in a statement.
Rwanda and Uganda have maintained longstanding relations, largely anchored in cooperation on security and trade, among other sectors.
