The Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) reported that rainfall for February is projected to range between 80 and 360 millimeters, compared with the historical average of 40 to 259 millimeters.

Temperatures are expected to be moderate, with daytime highs forecast between 21°C and 30°C, and nighttime lows ranging from 9°C to 18°C.

Wind speeds are predicted to vary between 4 and 12 meters per second, with strong winds expected in several districts.

Meteo Rwanda said heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely in the Western, Southern and Northern provinces, as well as Kigali City, while strong winds are expected in Gisagara, Huye, Nyamagabe, Nyaruguru, Kirehe, Ngoma, Kayonza, Musanze and Burera.

The agency attributed the expected rainfall to increased moisture carried into the region by winds from the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, as well as wind convergence from the Southern Hemisphere.

Meteo Rwanda also reviewed weather patterns from January 2026, noting that rainfall totals were below the seasonal average in most areas. January rainfall ranged between 14.1 mm and 224.8 mm.

The highest rainfall recorded was 224.8 mm at Nyakibanda station (Grand Seminary) in Huye District, Southern Province. The lowest rainfall, 14.1 mm, was recorded at Mpanga station in Kirehe District, Eastern Province.

Temperatures in January increased across many parts of the country, while rainfall decreased, but the rain that fell helped crops that were still in need of moisture.

However, some areas experienced negative impacts, including crop damage and weather-related disasters such as strong winds and hail.

Looking ahead, Meteo Rwanda said that February is likely to bring wetter conditions in many parts of the country, which should improve soil moisture and support agricultural production.
