Residents of Nyaruguru District are praising the government’s efforts to simplify child registration, saying digital systems have made the process faster and easier.
While many appreciate the efficiency of these services, they are urging authorities to improve the issuance of national ID cards.
Mukeshimana Clementine, a resident of Muganza Sector, said the simplified child registration process has spared parents long trips to sector offices, as it can now be completed at local health centers.
"I really thank the government for making it easier to register children at the hospital," she said. "But I hope more effort is put into speeding up ID card services because sometimes it can take up to a year for a replacement to arrive."
Niyibikora Landuard said many government services have improved, but ID card delivery still takes too long.
"I have a friend who corrected an error on their ID more than two years ago, but it still hasn’t arrived at the sector," he said. "Other services, like deregistering a deceased person, are now much faster than before."
Marie Solange Kayisire, Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government, said civil registration services are now largely digital, ensuring that no child goes unregistered and families can easily deregister deceased relatives.
"Parents should see registering a child as their responsibility," Kayisire said. "We are also continuing to improve service speed using technology."
According to the 2024/2025 Rwanda Governance Board report, Nyaruguru District ranks first in service delivery among the country’s 30 districts, with a score of 96.2%.
