Flying Eagles Karate Club captured first place at the 2025 Zanshin Karate Championship for juniors, held Sunday in Huye District.

The club dominated the competition, earning 13 medals, including six golds, to secure the top spot ahead of other participating teams. The senior tournament, held the previous weekend in the same district, was won by APR Karate-Do.

Flying Eagles’ head coach, Habamwizera Antoine, said the team’s success stems from nurturing confident young athletes. “We didn’t just win this year’s Zanshin; this is our third consecutive victory. The secret is knowing the tournament comes around every year, preparing thoroughly, and bringing players we trust to succeed,” he said.

The Champions Sports Academy took second place with 11 medals, including six golds. Coach Nkuranyabahizi Noel described the event as a success. “While there is always room for improvement, the tournament went well. It’s an international-level championship, and I commend the organizers for their work,” he said.

Kenya’s Mukusho Karate team earned third place with 14 medals, including four golds, followed by The Legend Karate School, which won four medals, including three golds. Kigali Elite Sports Academy ranked fifth with ten medals, including two golds.

Sensei Mwizerwa Dieudonné, director of Zanshin Karate Academy, which organizes the tournament, praised the high level of competition and participation. “Zanshin concluded successfully and left everyone happy. Many athletes from Rwanda and abroad competed. We must continue working hard so that future tournaments are even better,” he said.
