Rwanda’s industrial production grew 6.3% in July compared with the same month last year, driven by strong performance in energy, manufacturing, and mining, the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) reported Tuesday.
Electricity production jumped 13.6%, manufacturing output rose 4.1%, and mining and quarrying increased 3.8%. Water supply and sanitation grew by 2%. Industrial output in June also rose 8.5% year-on-year, while annual growth from June 2024 to June 2025 stood at 6.4%.
Key contributors to the growth included a 24.6% increase in food processing and a 28.9% rise in production of non-metallic mineral products.
Under the government’s second National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), industrial output is expected to grow at least 10% annually. During the first phase (NST1, 2017–2024), industrial production nearly tripled, from Rwf 591 billion to Rwf 1.6 trillion, with food processing and beverage production showing significant gains.
Industrial employment grew from 180,000 in 2017 to 259,000 in 2024, while tax revenue from the sector more than doubled, reaching Rwf 459 billion in the 2023–2024 fiscal year.
