China’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Gao Wenqi, on Wednesday met with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Gertrude Kazarwa, for talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments.

The two officials discussed ways to enhance collaboration between the parliaments of Rwanda and China, including the exchange of experience and increased cooperation in legislative work.

Both sides said relations between Rwanda and China continue to strengthen, supported by what they described as strong leadership from both countries.

They agreed to continue working together to promote practical cooperation in various sectors aimed at improving the welfare of citizens in both countries.

Rwanda and China have maintained diplomatic relations since Nov. 12, 1971. Following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the two countries have continued to strengthen cooperation in areas including political engagement, security and social development.

The two countries currently cooperate in sectors including infrastructure development, investment, technology, mining, transport, education, capacity building, health, trade, tourism, agriculture and security.
